Epoxy Samples
PDF Brochure (English)
  • Plastic mold tubes are available in 3 sizes, 1/2' ID, 3/4" ID, and 1" ID.
  • Epoxy material is clear, dries in 30 minutes, and doesn't have a strong odor
  • The two part epoxy material is sold in 50 ml cartridges that are loaded into a small hand held gun for dispensing into the mold tubes
  • Double sided tape and or putty material is used to hold the samples in place while filling the mold tubes with epoxy
  • Stainless Steel sample holder set includes one holder with 3 jaws matching the 3 mold tube outside diameters
  • The sample stays in the same holder during cutting, milling, polishing, etching, and picture taking
  • Processing epoxy sample requires FC 4001 power saw and GT350 grinder polisher
  • Photographing epoxy samples requires a microscope with a large field of view.
  • Epoxy samples are cleaned with appropriate etching solution
  • Mold tubes become part of the sample and are not reused
Certain samples found in the wire harness factory require encapsulation in Epoxy material for cross sectioning. These samples include IDC connectors, longitudinal crimp cross sections, ultrasonic weld samples (cable to terminal), ultrasonic splices (cable to cable), and wire samples.
Samples are first trimmed and mounted in Epoxy. Three size mold tubes are used, 1/2" ID, 3/4" ID, and 1" ID. The Epoxy material used is clear, dries in 30 minutes, and doesn't have a strong odor. The epoxy tube with encapsulated sample is mounted in the appropriate sample holder and cut with FC 4001 power saw. The cut sample is moved to GT350 grinder polisher. After wet sanding with 600 grit silicon carbide paper the sample is placed under the microscope for final cleaning with etching solution and picture taking.
